DISC / Directed Imagination System Change

DISC (Directed Imagination System Change) is selected somatic (“relating to the body”) and metacognitive (“thinking about thinking”) methodologies designed to facilitate System (“body and mind”) change.

This semantic reframing was chosen to help create distance from outdated and unhelpful associations with the term hypnosis, such as “being hypnotised”, altered states of consciousness (“trance”), loss of self-control, and instead aims to highlight the underlying mechanisms involved.

DISC is about you (or a facilitor) guiding your imagination to facilitate changes in your body and mind. That through suggestion and narrative, you can change your physical state (e.g., deep relaxation), and using your imagination, rehearse and challenge unhelpful responses to provoking situations.
